A selection of films from the What Makes Me Happy series were screened at the Leeds Young Film Festival on 20 April 2017.
The 18th Leeds Young Film Festival (10-20 April 2017), included over 50 films and events for young people aged up to 12 and their families. The Festival, funded by Leeds City Council with support from the British Film Institute and Arts Council England, welcomed over 11,000 young people and their families to watch, learn, and play across the City.
What Makes Me Happy is a series of beautiful, captivating, short, and fun films showing that even where lives are difficult children can still find happiness. Each film was made in its own country by working with local children. These are their own stories about what makes them happy, to be shared with children around the world.
What Makes Me Happy was part of a programme of work by The Ragdoll Foundation, an organisation dedicated to developing the power of imaginative response in children through the arts. At a time when awareness of cultural identity is more important than ever, these films offer the chance to be inspired by the strength and power of children who are living against the odds, and to share their cultures.
