RISE stands for refugee, integration, support, and engagement. It was first piloted in 2017, where it focused on developing language skills and accessing local services. RISE Beyond added high quality music workshops and access to the club’s music studio in Bolton to the programme. Participants, supported by a youth worker, accessed drop in taster sessions, weekly artistic development workshops, and 1:1 support with a qualified musician. Read more

How this project supported Ragdoll Foundation aims

Bolton Lads and Girls Club’s is a well-established, well-networked organisation, which was proposing adding music-making to its current programme of support for young refugees. The project was well-conceived, with young people having ample opportunity for active participation. The currency of popular music to create a common language, and development of transferrable skills in the process, were also strengths.
